Most women don't know what to expect after having a baby and assume that their bodies will just heal naturally after a while. That they’ll wake up one morning and like “magic” it’ll be as if it never happened…
But then the symptoms continue for months and years, and gradually get worse over time. You might even find yourself joking with your girlfriends about peeing your pants!
"Will I ever get back to the workouts and activities I love without peeing my pants or having pain?”
"Do I just have to live with this?"
"Why am I still dealing with issues even months (or years) after having a baby?"
"Why is this happening to me?"
Another scenario that we see quite frequently in our Women’s Health Clinic is when people go to the doctor, and the doctor tells them “you've had babies, what do you expect?”... Does that sound familiar?
Because of this, women think there is nothing that can be done and so they continue to suffer with the symptoms and sadly modify their lifestyle, which often means missing out on fun times with your kids - like jumping on a trampoline.
The irony really is, that the "just accept it" approach to treating postpartum women is highly ineffective. It often causes more frustration and loss of confidence in our bodies. There are so many women dealing with this!
You thought it would go away on it's own...but it didn't.
You were told surgery is the only thing that will help you.
You went to the doctor who told you to just “do Kegels” and take medication - but with little to no result.
A family member or friend told you that everybody has this issue, especially after having multiple babies, and that it's part of getting older... so it should just be accepted.
You tried other healthcare professionals - or even Physical Therapy - in the past, but it didn't seem to help so you think it won't work now.
You rely on “Dr. Google” or YouTube for exercises that don’t make any difference (or maybe even made your leaking worse!)
If any of these have ever happened to you, we would love to help you and invite you to book in a call to talk with one of our women’s health specialists at our Wheat Ridge Physical Therapy Clinic to find out what can be done to help your specific problem.
And here is some good news for you...
It is actually a GOOD THING that you may have tried any or all of the things we listed above. Because of this, we will be able to quickly determine what doesn’t work... meaning you are already closer to finding the thing that does!
